As a member of APLD, I enjoy a lot of benefits. One of the best is their magazine, the designer, which I’m sharing with you here. I feel confident that everything in this magazine has been through “extreme vetting”! The products are real solutions and the practitioners are real people who know what they’re talking about. One thing this issue confirmed for me is that I really want to visit Austin, TX!

Arlington Residents! I recently attended a contractor-training day with the StormwaterWise Landscaping program. Did you know that you can receive a significant reimbursement for residential landscape projects that improve your stormwater management? The drawback to this program is that it is based on a lottery that only happens once a year. The lottery opens up on March 1st, so I urge you to check it out. As they say, you can’t win if you don’t play.

I was running down the Custis Trail yesterday and saw all this Winter Jasmine hanging along the retaining wall- lovely! Native to China, this is a wonderful early winter bloomer, suggestive of forsythia to come a little later.
Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017 is a no-brainer for the landscape. ‘Greenery’ is meant to be fresh, lively, and symbolic of a fresh start- all the things a good garden should be!
What will you do outside in 2017?
Beautyberry is such an amazing shrub. The berries don’t even look real to me, but of course they are. This is a native shrub in our area.
