Green cover
Groundcovers aren’t the most exciting thing to talk about, but they do a valuable job of providing green cover and controlling erosion. Popular choices in the DC area include Euphorbia varieties (shown), pachysandra, ajuga, periwinkle, and Virginia Creeper.
Z is for Zinnias
Zinnias bloom for months of color. Cut them for beautiful bouquets and they will be even more prolific!
Redbuds in the Summer Landscape
Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) add so much to the summer landscape after their spectacular spring bloom. This variety, ‘Forest Pansy’, has gorgeous purple leaves that create a wonderful contrast to other foliage. They’re easy to find and easy to grow, too.
Woodland Retreat
It’s such a pleasure helping to develop this woodland garden. There are many challenges when you live with deer, but it can work!
